When I talk to couples about what they are looking for in a wedding photographer, one of the most common concerns is that they are nervous about being in front of the camera! It's human nature to be a little bit concerned about this as all eyes are going to be on you for the day! It's only natural to want to look truly amazing and enjoy your wedding day!

So take a moment to remember and truly let this sink in.............

You are marrying the person who loves you more than anybody else on this planet!

They think you are an awesome person and that is why you are getting wedding photos taken!!

So, how can you overcome that self-conscious feeling? Here are some practical tips from a professional wedding photographer to help you feel relaxed and natural on your big day.

Embrace the Moment

Remember, your wedding day is about love and connection and enjoying every little moment together. Chat to each other and focus on the joy and affection you share with your partner, fully immersing yourself in the moment.

Whether your affection for each other is shown through holding hands, small gestures, or if you have more of a joking vibe, that is what makes you unique as a couple. When you allow yourself to truly soak in these emotions, it will shine through in your photos.

Choose a Photographer you trust

Selecting a photographer who aligns with your style and helps you feel comfortable is crucial. Knowing that you have invested in a wedding photographer whose work you love, and who you have fun being around will help you look forward to jumping in front of the camera and seeing the magic that is created as a result!

I always like to have an informal chat via phone and another catch-up closer to the wedding so that we can familiarise ourselves with each other, and are therefore no longer strangers, which shines through in your wedding photos!

Invest in an engagement session

If you're nervous about being photographed, consider an engagement photoshoot. The best way to feel comfortable in front of the camera..... is to get in front of the camera!

This session can help you get used to how your wedding photographer runs their sessions, whilst building a great relationship with your photographer before your wedding day! During your engagement session, assess what feels good for you both and discuss any specific shots you love with your photographer.

Having this open dialogue will boost your confidence and make you feel more at ease on your wedding day.

Incorporate Movement

Movement in wedding photography adds more emotion and meaning to images, whilst giving the added benefit of helping you to focus on what you are doing and not the camera capturing you!

For instance, walking hand in hand, twirling, or dancing for a moment can capture candid joy. Even just running your hand down your partner's arm or wrapping your arms around as you sway can convey those truly beautiful natural moments that we are all after!

Be yourselves!

Although this may seem obvious, it is important to remember that your favourite photos are always the ones where you are just being yourself! Don't worry about what you think you are supposed to do - let your wedding photographer worry about posing, composition and light, and just soak in being with each other on your wedding day!

Whether that means letting yourselves be a little bit silly, emotional or simply a beautiful couple that are deeply in love, just roll with it!

These are the moments that are most natural and candid and capture who you truly are as a couple!

Wrapping Up

With these tips, you can step in front of the camera and fully enjoy every aspect of your wedding day, whilst creating natural, candid images that you will absolutely love!
